Hachiko
Jednou z najvýznamnejších udalostí v čase obnovenia a ochrany akity bol dojímavý príbeh, ktorý prešiel celým Japonskom a následne svetom o psovi s menom Hachiko. Žiaden pes predtým, ani potom si nezískal srdcia toľkých ľudí! Hachiko sa narodil v novembri 1923, do Tokya prišiel v januári 1924. Jeho majiteľom bol profesor Eisaburo Uyeno. Keď Hachiko vyrástol, každé ráno odprevádzal svojho pána do práce na vlakovú stanicu Shibuya, kde ho opäť popoludní očakával a tešil sa na spoločný návrat domov. Toto priateľstvo trvalo až do jedného dňa v máji 1925, keď profesor Uyeno v práci zomrel a už sa nikdy nevrátil ... Táto smutná udalosť postihla mladého Hachiko vo veku iba 16 mesiacov. Hachiko nikdy nezabudol na svojho pána, pravidelne opakoval svoju obyčaj v nádeji, že svojho pána nájde. Neuveriteľne dlhé čakanie a hľadanie, sa pre Hachika skončilo 8. marca 1934, keď zomrel na tom istom mieste, kde naposledy videl svojho pána. V apríli 1934 bola na počesť verného Hachiko, národného hrdinu, umiestnená bronzová socha v popredí vlakovej stanice Shibuya.
